Description
Propolis is a resinous substance produced by bees from the buds of poplar and cone-shaped trees. It is rarely available in pure form. Usually propolis is extracted from the hives that bees build from this material.
The composition of propolis includes more than 280 different substances and compounds, and to date, scientists have established only 111 components known to science. In particular, it contains polyphenols called flavonoids, which are produced in plants and have antioxidant properties. Thanks to terpene acids and a special compound, pinokebrin, propolis has a powerful antifungal effect. These anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties determine the wound healing properties of propolis.
