Description
Arginine is essential for metabolism to form urea, a process that binds and removes toxic ammonia through the kidneys.
Arginine is a conditionally essential amino acid. In an adult and healthy person, arginine is produced by the body in sufficient quantities. At the same time, in children and adolescents, in the elderly and sick people, the level of arginine synthesis is often insufficient. The biosynthesis of arginine is carried out from citrulline by the action of arginine succinate synthase and arginine succinate lyase.
Arginine is present in the formulation of hepatoprotectors, immunomodulators, cardiac drugs, medicines for burn patients, HIV/AIDS patients, as well as in formulations for parenteral nutrition in the postoperative period. Recently, drugs with arginine have appeared in gerontology and oncology.
Arginine is a carrier and donor of nitrogen, which is necessary for the synthesis of muscle tissue, this function was the main factor in the distribution of arginine in bodybuilding. Arginine contributes to an increase in muscle mass and a decrease in fat with adequate exercise. Ornithine, in turn, increases the effect of arginine, so many athletes prefer a formula that combines the amino acids arginine – citrulline – ornithine.
