In a recent test by a third party testing company, NOW Foods Spirulina was not approved because it did not fully break down in 30-60 minutes.
The NOW Foods technical team has scientifically evaluated the digestion time of food, which shows that it takes 4 to 5 hours for food to be completely digested in the stomach. Based on this review, we have established a disintegration time of 45-90 minutes for spirulina tablets. This disintegration standard meets all of our Spirulina tablets. NOW Foods has posted information about its disintegration standard as well as other testing standards on its website so that our customers can understand the scientific basis of our standards.
In addition, our spirulina is a high quality, naturally and organically grown, physically and nutritious food. We have specifically formulated these tablets to be free of fillers and tableting aids to provide pure spirulina in tablet form. The addition of excipients and tableting aids would speed up the disintegration time to allow for an arbitrary disintegration time of 30-60 minutes, but we have specifically decided to provide our customers with a pure food product in the form of tablets.
