Description
Taurine is a conditionally essential amino acid that is not used for protein synthesis, but is primarily found in the free form in most tissues, especially in the nervous system. This element stabilizes the cell membranes of tissues, facilitating the movement of potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium in and out of cells. Taurine contributes to the generation and regulation of nerve impulses, and also provides support for normal water balance. In addition, this amino acid is used in the visual pathways, as well as in the brain and nervous systems, where, together with glycine and GABA, it acts as a neurotransmitter.
