Description
Unlike most amino acids, beta-alanine is not used for protein synthesis. Instead, when it is eaten, it binds to the essential amino acid histidine and thus forms carnosine, which is stored in your skeletal muscles. Carnosine helps your muscles deacidify during exercise, as high levels of acid in your muscles shorten the duration of high-intensity exercise. In addition, carnosine helps reduce overall fatigue. It is for this reason that beta-alanine is recommended as a pre-workout supplement, especially for intense and short-term exercises that last from one to several minutes. Using beta-alanine may cause a tingling sensation, which is a safe side effect.
